The Foundation of Birth
The Foundations of Birth Are Laid Long Before Conception
During my doula training and through my studies in naturopathy, one truth continues to rise to the surface: a woman’s experience of pregnancy and birth is never created in the moment. It is the culmination of every belief, memory, lesson, and imprint she has carried in her body since childhood.
Long before a woman holds a baby in her womb, she holds a story in her body, about safety, about power, about worthiness, about how deeply she can trust her own instincts. These stories are shaped by the way she was spoken to, the way she was guided, and the way her cyclical nature was either honoured or ignored.
A girl who is taught to understand her body’s rhythms grows into a woman who trusts her body’s wisdom.
A girl who is encouraged to speak her truth becomes a woman who will seek her truth during labor.
A girl who learns that her body is hers, sovereign, sacred, and worthy of respect, becomes a woman who births from power rather than fear.
This is why body literacy and embodiment matter.
Because the future mothers, grandmothers, carers, nurturers, and stewards of this Earth are being shaped right now.
Because our daughters will one day be the women navigating pregnancy, advocating in hospitals, holding newborns, and raising the next generation.
And what they carry into those moments will be based on what we teach them today.
Shame, silence, and confusion get inherited.
So does confidence, sovereignty, and embodied wisdom.
This is why I wrote My Magical Cycle
For the girl I once was, curious, intuitive, but left without the language.
For the girls in our homes, classrooms, and communities who deserve so much more than whispered warnings or clinical diagrams.
For the girls who deserve honest, grounded, joyful education about their bodies, because understanding your body is not a luxury, it’s a birthright.
My Magical Cycle is a practical and soulful guide for girls aged roughly 8–14 (but truly, with no limitations). It teaches them about their hormones, their cyclical nature, and how to tune in, honour themselves, speak up, and seek support. It gives them the tools I wish every woman had before stepping into pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.
Because when girls grow up knowing themselves deeply, they become women who birth with confidence, who parent with attunement, and who walk through life with a grounded sense of sovereignty.
Let’s raise a generation of girls who aren’t afraid of their power,
because they were taught how to understand it.
